Global warming, recycling, talking about urban something. Today's class was environment class. I liked the recycling piece. I got impression that it talks about recycling the nature. Recycle the trees, grasses, and small wood pieces. I think that class didn't understand about my project. I threw another Asian myth or story to them.

04. 23. 08

I was sick today. So I am going to talk about Kwang-Young Chun. Mulberry culture is something that is gone from now daily life. Korean used to use the mulberry paper instead of plastic bags. I am wondering that why did he choose triangular shape. I don't know anything Significant about the triangle with Korean culture. One of his work is a big hanging circular shape. It is like a chuck of mulberry paper. To me, those paper is crying for recycle.

I guess whatever we do, we can't get out from the history. Some of artist connects their works to history and art history. I am not interesting in general history but I do like my own history. There aren't a lot of events that I need to remember.

Barbara Schreiber's works were small and simple. She kept saying that people control nature and nature fights back. She kept the best work for the last. Most of words are I didn't know and I might not know. One of her gallery work gave me an idea for my accumulation project.

Malena introduced a couple of artists. One of them was a Korean artist. I have never heard of him. Most of stories that he talked about is old stories. Most of photos are old photos. His house is really nice and traditional house. Andy Goldsworthy is one of artist that I really like. I really really like that he find things around the nature. No wasting. After the work, everything stays there and returns to where it was. One time, I tried to buy his book but it was expensived that i could not afford at that time.

I don't think I can live like Brandon Boar - doing art works without profit. I don't like to work with other people because sometimes, things doesn't work as you wanted to be. I am impressed that how 2 different artist works on one project. They might had different ideas and things but out-come-product looked so nice. I really liked the plastic layers. The picture looked like a water movement at night. Dark background with waves gave me dart water wave impression.

Everybody had fun with the sound piece. It sure was fun to play with it but I didn't like that it was so loud. There was a resident artist and I really liked one of his processing work. I reminded me a city night sky upside down. There were fire works and other things. Dark background and bright color blocks reminded me a sky but it was upside down.

We watched videos again. Cai Guo-Qiang used gunpowder. I liked that even the artist doesn't know how the final project will be. To me, his work is combination of western and eastern culture. Gunpower reminds me the western culture - the West Wild story and his subjects - dragons and tigers - reminded me the eastern culture. I liked those combination.

As soon as I got the 2nd project, all I could think about was the 1000 cranes that I alway wanted to do one day. Making 1000 cranes is really a time based things. We looked at some artists' works. I remember that Rob Carter's work reminded me children.

Noda. I never heard of the place before. I am not good at remembering the namess. Anyway, he had his own style but it is familiar style. I really liked the floor. He kept his style but didn't cover the place with it. He also put his personal things in the floor picture. There was a question I wanted to ask his - why are there a lot of small band-aids?

I really like my second project. Well, I really put a lot of time on it. About a week, all I did was folding 1000 cranes. I forgot her name but a girl did work with strawberries. At first I thought that pour wasted strawberries. I do like that she used the real strawberries when she could draw or something else. My favorite time project is the one with phone calls -rumors. I remember a TV ad about Oreo cakester. In the ad, starting setense and final sentense are totally different.

We had a guest speaker, who is a fiber teacher from the school. As I like to put my background on my art work, she had interesting stories in her art work. I have nver been to Middle East countries, but I get how their culture is. I liked how she interpretated. We also talked about the interpretation. I think there isn't right interpretation. Each people have different background and history. Each people think differently. Adult and child have different interpretation. As we are thinking about the interpretation, we already know that some people express differently and think differently. Actually, I like the part that people think differently and express differently.
