Love in the House 4 ft x 4 ft Red string

Mixing old Chinese belief and American children play. Some of children grew up with chalk drawing. When they were young, they drew things on a street. As a children, they draw anything. I wanted to draw a lovely couple and reminded me a Chinese belief. I incorporate the belife story and children drawing. Like a childdren drawing, the work is simple form. From the Chinese belief, man and woman are connected with a red thread and kept the story and everything is connected in one red thread. To remind audience's childhood, I want to play children song. Since it is about American and Chinese, I want to play American and Chinese children song.

Nature Cranes

PROCESS - wishing

Finished - wish came true

Crane #1
1ft 8in x 2ft 11in x 1ft 10in
color paper, transperency noctilucence paper, clear plastic sheet
Crane #2
1ft 8in x 2ft 11in x 1ft 10in
color paper, transperency noctilucence paper, clear plastic sheet
Be free~!
I wanted to present the work itself at the nature, so it looks like it is free in the nature. The real cranes live in the nature. It might be a paper folded crane, but why can't it be free in the nature like the real cranes? It would be nice if I could put it between the real cranes or the place where the real cranes might live.

NA

My abiding Image

Making molds

Making Candy

Collaborating

Front
18" x 24" frame
candy, teddy bear, pictures, post card, board, baking sheet

Back
18" x 24" frame
candy, teddy bear, pictures, post card, board, baking sheet

As soon as I got the project, I wanted to show my hands. The abiding image was taken a couple years ago. Since then one hand has black nail and another has while mail. The image is about people have 2 sides. I think a lot of people have 2 sides rather they show them or not and they know or not. I have 2 sides, t00 - being nice to people but complain about everything. Whatever happens people think differently and react differently. When you were being nice to help people, so you might get help from them. Other people might think taht you are using them to get help. One action can be seen in 2 different sides.
I wanted to put hands in a wing form. A wing symbolizes an angel. One time, I heard that when little angels - children - grow, they loose their pureness. We dont looke like an angel anymore. I might be an angel but I want to be one.
Since this class doesn't have limitation with supplies, I wanted to be out of art supplies that will represents me. Candy! I like candy since I was young. At work, I am known as a candy girl, who has candy always. When poeple see me, some of them think about candy. Candy is something that I can't live without and represents me. Making a candy was hard. While I was waiting on alginate, I tried to make candy 3 time and failed all 3 times.
For final product, I wanted to put the candies on my back and take a picture in front of a board. This board has my family photo, my favorite music band pictures and favorite pictures. I couldn't take a picture of myself without help, which I could not get. I had to get help from a teddy bear that I was asking my friends for a christmas gift since I was freshme in college. I didn't have teddy bear when I was young. Since my back couldn't be part of the picture, I decide to put myself in the picture and I forgot about how the hands were important to this project.
